BRENT OIL – Sideways Trading Dominates Near-Term Outlook, While Technical Signals Remain Bearish Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty

Brent crude remained confined to a tight consolidation range for a second consecutive session after Tuesday’s sharp selloff, which saw prices tumble more than 6%. Despite the pause in downside momentum, the market continues to trade below the key psychological $80 mark, with gains capped by the 200-day moving average at $80.73 and the lower boundary of the daily Ichimoku cloud.

Bearish pressure has eased temporarily despite encouraging headlines surrounding the latest round of US-Iran peace discussions. However, investors remain cautious given the repeated collapse of previous agreements and ongoing geopolitical risks, including recent attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.

The broader technical outlook remains negative. A thickening daily Ichimoku cloud, the emergence of a Tenkan-sen/Kijun-sen bearish crossover, and strengthening downside momentum all point to a deteriorating chart structure. Even so, market direction continues to be driven primarily by geopolitical developments rather than technical factors alone.

Near-term bias is expected to remain skewed to the downside while prices stay below the 200-day moving average and the cloud base, keeping pressure on immediate support at $77.64, the 76.4% Fibonacci retracement of the $70.13 to $101.97 advance.

A sustained break below this level would expose the next downside targets at $75.28, the July 10 low, followed by $74.25 at the lower 20-day Bollinger Band, ahead of the crucial support zone around $70.

On the upside, a decisive move through the daily Ichimoku cloud would ease immediate bearish pressure and shift focus toward resistance at $83.73, the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement of the decline from $101.97 to $78.10. Additional barriers stand at $86.05/$86.32, where the daily Kijun-sen and Tuesday’s spike high converge, followed by the higher pivot level at $87.22, representing the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement.
